Mikkelsen Farms

DEVIL’s Lake, ND

One day last spring Jim Mikkelsen had a very fortunate conversation with Jim Sitar at Hefty Seed in Webster, ND.

“The Mikkelsen homestead has always had a 25-acre section with salty soil that will grow little but wild barley foxtails. Over the years, my dad and I have tried various inputs but nothing seems to work.”

“Sitar suggested that REV might be the answer. So, this year I tried planting barley by applying REV at one quart per acre in-furrow with my fertility package – a mix of 6 gallons 28-0-0 and 4 gallons 10-34-0.”

“The results were amazing. After decades of failures, my alkali field averaged 60 bushels per acre of barley.
